Privacy Policy
Who we are
Dub Life is an independent game made in Ireland. For anything about your data, contact [email protected].
What's kept, and why
On your device
Your game (your character, money, gaff and progress), your settings, your block and mute lists, and a secret key that proves this device is you. These stay in your browser's storage. Clearing your browser data deletes them, and your life with them.
On our servers
| What | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|
| A random player id, your @handle, and a scrambled (hashed) copy of your secret key | To know it's you when you come back, so nobody can pretend to be you | Until you delete your data, or 24 months without playing |
| When you first and last played, and how long you've played | To stop fake players affecting the game's rents, and to free rooms in shared houses | As above |
| Rooms you hold in shared houses, and your friends list | So they're there next time | Rooms: until you move out or after 14 days away. Friends: until you or they unfriend, or delete your data |
| Reports: who reported whom, the reason, and up to the last 20 chat messages the reported player sent | To moderate the game and keep players safe | 1 year |
| Moderation actions (warnings, mutes, bans), including the internet (IP) address for bans | To enforce the rules and handle appeals | For the length of the ban, then 1 year |
Not stored: chat (except as report context, above), your position in the city, and the internet address you connect from (we use it briefly, in memory, to limit connections and gifts, unless you're banned). Your name, look, home and job are shown to players near you while you're online.
The legal bases (GDPR) are: providing the game you asked for (contract), keeping it safe and preventing abuse (legitimate interests), and complying with the law (legal obligation).
Who it's shared with
Only the services that run the game: Railway (servers and database) and Cloudflare (website delivery and protection). They process data for us under their terms, which include safeguards for transfers outside the EU. We share with the Gardaí or other authorities only when the law requires it, or when someone's safety is at serious risk. We never sell data, show ads, or use analytics or tracking cookies. Fonts are served from dublife.app itself.
Children
Players under 13 can play on their own but can't use online features (chat, friends, other players). Players aged 13 to 15 play in a safer mode with ready-made chat phrases, no private messages, and only friends able to find them. We don't ask for date of birth: only an age range, kept on your device and sent to our servers to apply these protections.
Your rights
- Delete your data: phone → Settings → Delete my data, or email us. This removes your player record, rooms and friendships from our servers and clears the game from your device.
- See or correct your data, or object to how we use it: email us.
- Complain to the Data Protection Commission: dataprotection.ie.
Security
Connections are encrypted, secret keys are stored only as hashes, and access to moderation tools is restricted. If a breach ever put your data at risk, we'd tell the Data Protection Commission within 72 hours, and you if required.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we'll say so in the game.
